For 60 years, the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens has been a place for plants, and people, to grow.

We invite you to join us for “An Evening with the Nightshades,” to celebrate the Botanical Gardens as we honor the roots of this legacy.

The Botanical Gardens provide a welcoming place where visitors can connect with nature at no cost. As we celebrate this milestone, we invite you to partner with us as a sponsor. Your support directly sustains the Gardens by funding dedicated staff, facility maintenance, community events, educational programming, and the continued care of our treasured plant collections. As UNC Charlotte grew from a small college into a major research university, the Gardens grew from a modest test site for rhododendrons into one of the Charlotte region’s most beloved living resources.

The gardens were started with the blessing of the University’s founder Bonnie Cone, first planted by the first professor of biology, Dr. Herbert Hechenbliekner, and later managed by the great Dr. Larry Mellichamp.

Ultimately the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens’ greatest legacy will measured by the knowledge shared, the curiosity inspired, the connections made, and the people who leave with a greater appreciation for the living world. We invite you to be part of this celebration as we propagate the future of the Gardens.
