Plants and Music

It has been an exciting few months in the Gardens, and it is going to get even better! Our fall plant sale starts today if you are a member of the Gardens or a part of the campus community. If you would like to become a member, you can come to the sale and purchase membership on site. The cost is $45, which entitles you to a free native plant (donated by Bartlett Tree Experts) as well as a discount at the sale itself. Remember, the best time to plant a tree or shrub is in the fall!

Next Friday after the sale, October 20, we will be having Music in the Gardens with The UNC Charlotte Horn Choir presenting a delightful and eclectic program featuring compositions from the Renaissance to the present day.
Please Help Us Create a New Garden
We need your help! This year, for the first time, we are using crowdfunding as a means to ask all of you to help us create a new garden showcasing the many native and underutilized fruits that can grow in the Charlotte region. Besides simply creating this garden, another important part of this funding drive is to demonstrate the interest that our community has in the Botanical Gardens. Please visit crowdfund.uncc.edu/fruits to learn more and give today. Your gift of any amount will help bring awareness and support to the Gardens and help to demonstrate that this community is interested and invested in the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens. Thank you for your support!
Symposium
The second annual UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens’ Symposium is planned and ready for registration! Joe Lamp’l is the keynote speaker for Urban Roots: Transforming the Urban Environment. We will also have Tradd Cotter, Mary Archer, Robin Moore, and Thom Duncan talking about topics ranging from mushrooms to urban plantings. The venue for these presentations will be the beautiful center city campus in uptown Charlotte. This is the perfect opportunity for you to see this amazing facility for education of all types. Find out about the symposium in the link below!

Featured Plant of the Month
Sensitive Mimosa

Sensitive mimosa (Mimosa pudica) is one of the most interesting plants that we have at the Gardens. Its leaves respond to touch by rapidly closing, making it a favorite of the many children who visit. Besides the interesting leaves, this amazing plant also has some wonderful pink flowers making it an attractive conversation piece for patios over the summer months.
