Carnivorous Carnival

Date: Saturday August 3, 2019

Rain or Shine! Some outdoor stations will be moved inside McMillan Greenhouse in case of inclement weather.

Time: 11 – 1 pm

Suggested ages: 4 – 12 for carnival activities

Carnivorous Plant Sale – open to the public!

Plant prices starting at $10   ages- everyone!

Special Movie Screening from 1-2pm: 

PBS’ Plants Behaving Badly: Murder and Mayhem

$5 admission or free with carnival admission

Learn about insect-eating plants and have a blast! This is a family event with games, crafts, hands-on displays, fly-trap feedings, face painting and more.

Carnival admission: $5 per child; free for parents

Included in admission: Ben Gregory, Entomology PhD, will be investigating and identifying the pitcher plants’ successful “catches” by dissecting pitchers with kids.

For an additional fee you can create your own Miniature Bog Garden!

 

Director Emeritus Dr. Larry Mellichamp will lead a workshop where you will create your own miniature bog garden. Students will learn to care for their carnivorous plants to ensure success.

Registration is required to reserve your time slot. All materials included in the price- carnival admission also included)

Choose from three time slots and either small garden(3 plants) or large garden (5 plants).

Location: McMillan Greenhouse

Class size: each time slot has availability for 5 large gardens and 7 small. 

Times: 11:30 – 12:15    

            12:15 – 1:00

             1:00 – 1:45

 Small Bog Garden: $30 / $25 for members

  Large Bog Garden: $50 / $40 for members
