Beer is one of the oldest beverages produced by humans. Ancient Egyptians were one of the first civilizations to perfect brewing. Eventually, it found its way through the Middle East into Europe. During the Middle Ages, the addition of hops made way for the beer we are accustomed to today. Beer may have changed over the years, but what has remained consistent, is the use of plants and botanicals.
Join us at Free Range Brewery and listen to a lecture by Mary Izett, Brewer, and author of Speed Brewing: Techniques and Recipes for Fast-Fermenting Beers, Ciders, Meads, and More.
Lecture Highlights:
· Base ingredients in beer: barley & hops & yeast
· Gruits and other historical botanical beverages
· Modern use of botanicals in beer (commercial & home)
· Brewing with botanicals at home: beer & other beverages (ingredients, techniques, recipes)
